![]() If the skewer is dry, the marshmallow sticks to the skewer, makes a mess on the tip, and makes it very difficult to get it on in one piece.Īrrange the skewers on a plate in a bit of an arch to get the rainbow effect. If the skewer is wet, the marmallow peeps slide on beautifully. Important tip: Make sure the tip of the skewer is WET before you add the marshmallow peeps. Skewer the fruit onto the stick first, leaving lots of room at the end for the Easter bunny Peeps. They contain less than half a percent of food coloring. The big three are sugar, corn syrup (I.e., more sugar) and gelatin. No problem though, because they worked beautifully with my rainbow theme. Here’s the rundown: As ingredients go, Peeps seem pretty innocuous. We don’t have as much variety as our friendly neighbours in America, so the pink ones were the only ones I could get. The full printable recipe is at the end of this post, but here’s what you’ll need: Wouldn’t these be great as a snack at an Easter party? I mean, yes, you have those Marshmallow Easter Peeps in there, but then you also have a rainbow of healthy fruit to balance it out. I was inspired by the adorable skewers over at Amee’s Savory Dish. This is such a great alternative to the typical sweet, candy Easter treats you normally see around this time of year. (So much for my moment of feeling like a good mom!) But my 7 year old and 4 year old loved them and they both managed to eat theirs safely without poking anything or anyone. My husband, on the other hand was not impressed that I gave one of these to our 2 year old, who came THIS close (imagine me pinching my two fingers together to show you how close) to poking himself in the eye with the skewer as he was trying to bite the fruit off. Those are the moments that make me feel like a good mom. It was one of those awesome moments where the kids saw the plate of snacks when they got home from school and they were like, “Ooooo… we get to eat these!?” Yes. I threw together these adorable Easter Peeps fruit skewers this afternoon and the kids loved them. I couldn’t think of anything more spring-like either. So let’s get a little spring-like cheesiness out of the way. Can you think of anything more spring-like than rainbows? And Easter? And Easter rainbows? With Peeps? No. There will be no fashion awards going to this momma any time soon. And I went to pick them up wearing my bulky parka and my dirty rain boots. Relieved? Hopeful? Remember, I live in Canada, so while other people on social media have been posting pictures of their cherry blossoms and their kids outside on the patio without jackets (*gasp*) for weeks, my kids still went to school today wearing snow pants and winter boots. ![]() Woo hoo! It’s the first day of spring! I don’t know why that makes me so happy. We had to confirm it with Siri (Oh Siri, always there to settle an argument when we need you…), and sure enough Siri confirmed that my daughter was right. This morning, my 7 year old popped out of bed, and said “Guess what Mommy? It’s the first day of spring!” My first thought, as the wonderful and supportive mother that I am, was that she was clearly wrong.
